When I first saw KitHub’s Motorized Bot, I had to check it out. This was the perfect opportunity to have my children build a motorized robot kit.
My eldest daughter is in STEM Academy in our county school district. It’s a fantastic program where kids can apply beginning in 4th grade. They accept 48 children from applicants from all around the county. The students must maintain a certain GPA (3.0) to continue in the program. Being that we are a military family, we moved to the area during the middle of her 5th-grade year.
The application period came around, and she applied. It’s tough competition because unless a child drops out due to their choice or for not maintaining that GPA, there may not be an opening. We were all excited, cause my daughter picked up one of the two available slots that year.
This program looks at teacher recommendations, essay, and test scores. She entered into the rigorous program in 6th grade. That wonderful middle school life. If you are moving to the Pax River area, I recommend you check it out.
Science Fair time came along for 6th grade, and she wanted to do a robotic project, but she HATES the E in STEM. So, she passed. 7th grade Science Fair came along. She said she was going to build a robot to perform a specific task to help her out with chores around the house. Well, over the summer she started working on her project (yes, this program has summer work to be completed. one being to research a science project). So, as she did her research and planning, she realized she REALLY didn’t like the E in STEM.
I had her help me out with the Motorized Bot project to give her a shot at building herself a robot. When the package first arrived, she thought I had lost my mind cause she wanted to know what she was supposed to do with a cup. Yeah, I told her she was going to help me out anyway. So, after she finished her softball season, she took a bit of time to work on KitHub’s Motorized Bot.

All the material to build this Bot is included in the package. If you’re a parent like me, you’re already thinking…SCORE! I seem to never have batteries of any sort around when I need them. But, I know we just purchased like 200 of them. My husband can NEVER go to the store and buy just one pack of batteries.
The kit came in a cute little box. Made me think of a little lunch pack. Along with all the parts, there is easy to follow assembly card to help guide you during the building of your Bot.

- She read the directions. No, I’m not trying to be funny. You know most of us never read the instructions on doing anything; our husbands. lol
- Identified each item. Again, I was impressed. My daughter said she wanted to ensure all the parts were indeed included and she knew what was what. Maybe she does pay attention in class. WHAAAATTTTTTT!!!!!!!
- This child of mine was sure to lay everything out precisely for assembling her Bot.
- As the Bot was constructed, she played around with the position of the battery. Why? Depending on the placement of the battery, the speed and movement of Teresa varied. This is what sparked her interest the most. She began explaining things to me that I had no clue of what she was talking about. I guess that’s why she’s the STEM student and I’m not. Lol, I will stick to what I know and let her do her thing over there.
