A Fun Sight Word Game To Build Reading Skills
School is in full swing. The little ones are reading each night before bed, maybe you’re working on sight words, or maybe you’re still reading to them each night. Either way, learning to read should be fun! If you are looking for a bit of advice on ways to help with reading skills I have one for you. You know I’m always going to give you my two cents, so I don’t even know why I lead with that statement. 🙂

Troubleshooting Your Child’s Tantrums
One of my favorite things about being a father is watching my son’s personality and sense of self develop. The kid has a great sense of humor and is constantly developing new skills. Unfortunately, as kids grow more into themselves, they also try to dictate their own will more often, even if that “will” involves dipping their hands into toilet water. As responsible parents, it is our job to teach these youngsters to resist the urge to dip their hands into the proverbial toilet, but this almost always results in the dreaded tantrum.

Just Be Kind – It Goes A Long Way In Life
Throughout life, we all encounter unpleasant people and situations. As a mother I watch children and adults walk around with chips on their shoulders. I ask, “how hard is it to just Be Kind?” Seriously, how much energy will it take to teach our children to be kind to others? How much energy does it take for us as adults to show a bit of kindness to the next adult?

Having A Pet Helps You Build Empathy
Every little boy and girl dreams of having a pet of their own to cuddle with and play with. Whether it’s a dog, a cat, or a lizard, every child at some point in their life yearns for their own pet. We all remember the devastation as a young child when you’d ask your mom for a puppy and be told ‘no’ for the thousandth time. However, this may be a mistake. There are a lot of benefits to growing up with a pet, especially an animal like a dog.

You Married Your Husband, Not Your Parents
This is great if you’re married, engaged or want to be married one day. This is the best advice given to me and the best advice I can give as a happily married woman to another woman that wants to be happily married one day. And yes, I added HAPPILY cause some folks are just married and miserable from all ends. And being happy in your marriage doesn’t mean that you don’t want to throat punch one another sometimes. Hey, just keeping it real! But you gotta learn from day one to keep people out of your relationships and most definitely out of your marriage. And before I continue, let’s…

Yes, I See Skin Color and Proud of It
Dear people, this is new and out of my comfort zone. But when you know you’ve been pushed along to share your story you must obey and do so. So here goes…. I hope this starts a new conversation between you and I. I hope it helps with opening discussion amongst neighbors, co-workers, family, and friends. We all can learn from one another, and unless we have an open race conversation, we will continue to have hatred, harden hearts and hurt. It’s ok to talk about race issues, and it’s ok to SEE COLOR. I SEE SKIN COLOR EVERY DAY!

A Testimony – Rape Is Not My Fault
Intro: About 2 years ago I wrote out my entire testimony about how the Lord had brought me through the tragedy of rape; through the waters of infertility and then through the crushing financial time of filing bankruptcy and being where I am today. Recently we did a cleanup day at my house, and unfortunately the old notebook containing that written testimony was misplaced/tossed out. Funny thing is, instead of being very upset about that – I feel that it is God telling me to “rewrite it”, just as He is “rewriting me” now that I have again gone through yet another difficult time losing my father, and am in…

A Card Goes A Long Way and Means So Much
We are all tuned into social media with the ease of sending invites and doing a blanket Thank You to everyone on a list, but do you remember the days of receiving that hand written note or card in the mail? The smile the card put on your face knowing something special happened in someone’s life or that someone is thinking about you? A card goes a long way in making someone’s day special, so why not create some custom cards for your family and friends.

Classic Denim For Kids Without Breaking The Bank
Denim is a classic. I mean, you CAN’T go wrong with having denim in your family’s wardrobe. I also know that finding a great pair of jeans, cute skirt or dress can also be very difficult and pricey for growing kids. I don’t mind dropping a nice penny on my denim cause I’m not going to out grow them in a month, but for my little ones…hmmmmm…….it hurts! So, where can you find a good deal on those classics that everyone should have in their closet, even kids?

Wear and Rock Your Curls Girlfriend
As you see in my header, I have natural big curly hair. It always seems to strike up a conversation with curious people. I chuckle whenever someone tries to ask me questions about my hair (they always seem to be a bit nervous). And I really chuckle when someone reaches out to touch it. “No! Don’t do that!” “Please, don’t touch my hair!” “Yes, it’s my hair and yes it’s this curly, bouncy and it will grow like a Chia Pet over the course of a few days, even hours.” However, two of my daughters’ hair is nothing like mine, and one is very similar.
