Our brains are wired to adapt to the routines and tasks we undertake daily. This is why you can drive to work along the same route without having to navigate or think about the journey, you just do it automatically because you’re so familiar with the process. This can be helpful because that helps you avoid spending unnecessary brain power on a task you could already do well.

However, once that process starts applying to many different areas of your life, it’s easy to feel as though you’re relatively trapped or set in your ways. As most of us have a desire for novelty, learning and growth, it can be hard to break out of that prior spell even if we really do desire to.

Here, it’s helpful to focus on activities that help you express your freedom. There’s nothing better for getting out of your comfort zone than taking on a new creative project. That might be as simple as getting more involved in your kitchen, teaching your children how to bake, or perhaps learning how to cook better with seafood and spices.

A creative project could also involve writing in a journal at least four times a week, writing down your thoughts and updates from the week you’re living. Read those entries at the end of the year, and you’ll be able to see your perception and believes changing over the months. Creativity has a habit of kicking us out of our comfort zone, and for that reason, it can be tremendously healthy to take part in.

Enjoy New Events With Your Loved Ones

It can be nothing if not healthy to get out into the world with those you love the most, especially if it’s something that they find interesting you’re hoping to learn about.

This might involve heading to a comic convention with your son or visiting a car expo with your partner. When you open your mind and can look at the world from another’s perspective, especially if they have something to share with you, it can help knock you out of autopilot and see the world as fresh and fun again.

After all, there’s so much to learn out there. Sometimes it’s worth stepping back and letting yourself realize that through and through.

Make A Routine, Schedule & Targeted Goals List

You’d be surprised how effectively making a routine and a goals list can help you get out of your autopilot routine decided for you. After all, autopilot usually comes when a routine seems to suppress or tire us out, as opposed to informing our days and helping us get the most out of it.

So, looking at your routine once more may help you squeeze out more free time, share the household burdens with your partner, or perhaps plan for a special date, like a longer vacation this year or a camping trip you can take with your family.

You’ll also be able to cut out the meaningless tasks from your schedule that no longer serve a purpose – for instance, you might not need to maintain your garden in the depths of winter that much, given how nothing grows in the snow and ice.
